People were clear that any new community must be about more than homes. In response, the emerging proposals include facilities and infrastructure that can support daily life, provide places for people to meet and help reduce the need for every journey to be made by car.

• Play spaces within easy reach of new homes
• A new three form entry primary school (each year will have three forms)
• Distinct local centres at both Garon Parkside and Bakers Gate to meet every day needs and provide flexible space for meetings, groups and social events. Flexible uses could also include provision for Southend’s youth, subject to further testing with local partners and operators
• Potential for a new high street at Bakers Gate, with flexible ground floor space for everyday shops, cafes, services and community uses. In advance of this, we are proposing ‘meanwhile’ uses where such provision can be provided in advance of construction being completely finished.

Looking beyond our site, we intend to provide financial contributions towards Southend-wide infrastructure improvements, and our aspiration is to complement other forthcoming development and infrastructure locally.
