Green Space

You told us that green open space matters for recreation, mental and physical health, wildlife and the character of the area. In the survey, the most popular green space features were spaces that support wildlife and nature, feel safe throughout the day, and provide places to relax outdoors.

Taking inspiration from the local landscape, footpaths, water and coastal character, we intend to:

  • Deliver publicly accessible green open space, opened up through walking routes and nature trails
  • Create a variety of green spaces, including places for wildlife, informal recreation, play, relaxation and community use
  • Provide places for sport and activity, from informal running and walking routes to organised team sports, building on the area’s existing sporting strengths
  • Optimise the western site’s green setting and relationship with Garon Park golf course
  • Reflect Southend’s coastal character through landscape design, including natural drainage features such as swales and ponds that can support biodiversity and help manage surface water
